Swiss feel secure despite economic crisis
The Swiss feel safe and remain optimistic, according to a survey by the Federal Technical Institute in Zurich.
It also found that three out of four respondents approve of the Swiss militia army, although overall confidence in state institutions is waning.
Environmental risks, shortage of commodities and the economic crisis are perceived as the biggest dangers by the Swiss, said representatives of the institute’s military academy at a news conference on Friday.
The survey also found increasing support for international cooperation without giving up Switzerland’s autonomy.
A clear majority came out in favour of bilateral treaties with the European Union and more than 90 per cent of respondents said Switzerland should maintain its neutral status.
The annual study is based on 1,200 interviews conducted across the country in January.
