Swiss win silver in Lausanne triathlon

Switzerland have come second in the team relay event of the Triathlon World Championship series in Lausanne.

Britain finished first in one hour, nine minutes and 29 seconds, while the Swiss team came in 14 seconds later followed 27 seconds after by Germany.

Britain also led in the men’s World Triathlon Sprint with a time of 52 minutes and 23 seconds by Jonathan Brownlee. Barbara Riveros Diaz of Chile came first in the women’s with 58 minutes and 35 seconds. Both are now second in the series standings.

Athletes competed in 32 degree Celsius heat for Sunday’s team event, with each member swimming 265m, cycling 5km and running 1.2km before handing over to the next member of the four-person team.

The event was held in Switzerland instead of Japan this year following the country’s tsunami and earthquake.
