Paul and Martin Laciga sailed through the first four rounds of the latest leg on the beach volleyball world tour, when they claimed a decisive victory after every match.

Kobel and Heuscher had to work a little harder to make it through to the last four of the Berlin tournament. The pair suffered an early setback when they went down to the Brazilian partnership Emanuel/Tande in the second round, losing 19-21, 18-21.

But a strong recovery in the third and fourth rounds guaranteed the Swiss pair a place in the semi-finals, the furthest they have ever reached in the annual tournament.

Whichever Swiss pair emerges victorious from the semi-final tie will go on to play the winner of Sunday's other semi-final match, between Emanuel/Tande and the Australian duo, Zahner/Prosser.

The Laciga brothers, who hail from Fribourg, already hold the 1998 and 2000 world titles and came fifth in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
