The Swiss team has won the Nations Cup for its performance at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany.

The three-strong-team won the SFr 70,000 ($30,800) prize after its superb performance in the jumping obstacle race, finishing ahead of Germany and last year's winner Belgium.

In front of 40,000 spectators Swiss riders Beat Maendli on Gryfino, Paul Freimueller on Himmerdor, Dehlia Oeuvray on King Cavalier and Markus Fuchs on Tinka Boy completed a penalty-free round, nudging ahead of the German team.

The Germans finished with four penalty points and the Belgian's with eight.

It is the fifth time Switzerland has brought home the trophy since the Aachen World Equestrian Festival began 104 years ago. The five day event, which attracts competitors and horse enthusiasts from all over the world, runs until Sunday.
