Tennis: Federer’s Wimbledon warm-up continues

Keystone

Roger Federer's transition from clay court to grass appears to be going smoothly, with the Basel player easing into the quarterfinals of the Halle tournament in Germany.

Federer comfortably beat Sweden’s Magnus Larsson (6-2, 6-3) in the second round of the million-dollar ATP event and will now face America’s Michael Chang in the last eight.

The win over Larsson saw Federer avenge his defeat by the Swede in the Copenhagen semi finals in March, the only previous match between the two players. More importantly for Federer the victory shows clear improvement in his grass game. Larsson was a finalist at Halle in 1994 and 1998 and is probably at his best when playing on grass.
