The sounds of Easter ring out over Lake Geneva

Splendid views of the Alps can be had from the resorts of Gryon and Villars. Gryon Tourist Office

A series of concerts to mark the Easter weekend are planned in the Lake Geneva resorts of Montreux and Gryon.

Free performances ranging from Swiss folk music to Latin American and Dixieland will be held at hotels and restaurants throughout Montreux from Good Friday (April 13) to Easter Monday (April 16).

Visitors to Montreux can stroll between the venues along the scenic lakeshore promenade, lined with gardens and offering stunning views of the French Alps across the lake.

In Gryon above Lake Geneva, a classical Easter concert will be given at the “Temple du Gryon” on Easter Sunday (April 15).

Three Swiss virtuosi – trumpeter Claude-Alain Barmaz, trombonist David Rey and organist Olivier Borer – will perform a selection of sonatas, suites and concertos by Bach, Melchior Franck and Giuseppe Torelli.

Gryon, together with nearby Villars, is a top ski resort in winter and a favourite destination for hikers in the summer. There are about 300 kilometres of trails in the area, and cable cars stretch up to the Diablerets glacier (summer skiing) at 3,000 metres above sea level.
