The South African, who has won the US Open twice, is currently ranked third in the world, just behind the Americans Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. He is the most prestigious player to attend the Crans-Montana Masters since Australia's Greg Norman in 1995.

Els, who is 32, is considered by many as the player with the most aesthetic swing.

This year's tournament will host other top 15 players, including the world number four, Britain's Lee Westwood. Ireland's Darren Clarke (no.9), the Dane Thomas Björn (no.15) and the current titleholder, Eduardo Romero, will also be present at the event.
