Trossero calls up Kondé and Contini

Switzerland coach Enzo Trossero has named two new players in his squad for this month's football friendly against Poland.

Twenty-one year-old defender Oumar Kondé, who plays in the German Bundesliga for SC Freiburg, has been called up to the 20-man squad, as has St Gallen midfielder Giorgio Contini.

St Gallen goalkeeper Jörg Stiel has missed out on a place, though, following Marco Pascolo’s return from injury. The FC Zurich keeper is expected to deputise for Bayer Leverkusen’s Pascal Zuberbühler.

Dario Rota and André Muff, who made their international debuts against Tunisia in November, have both been dropped from Trossero’s latest squad.

Minor injuries have ruled out Switzerland’s captain Ciriaco Sforza and Lecce striker David Sesa. A more surprising absentee is defender Ramon Vega who has recently been in impressive form for Scottish league leaders Celtic.

FC Zurich defender Yvan Quentin has been given an equally unexpected recall to the national side. The 31-year-old player has not featured in the Swiss team since an embarassing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Azerbaijan during a World Cup qualifying match more than four years ago.

The match against Poland, which is being played in Cyprus on February 28, will be Switzerland’s last major test before their next World Cup qualifying match in Yugoslavia on March 24.
