Unemployment rate falls again

The number of people out of work has fallen again with the unemployment rate for March standing at just 1.8 per cent. That's a fall of 0.1 per cent on February's figure.

The total number of people registered as unemployed is now 65,625. The number of vacancies across the country is 14,559, around 400 more than the previous month.

Switzerland’s jobless rate is the lowest in Europe and compares to the Euro-zone rate of 8.8 per cent.

Economists welcomed Friday’s figure as a sign that the economy, though showing signs of slower expansion, was still in good health.

“The Swiss economy is still on a solid growth path,” said Hanspeter Hausheer, senior economist at UBS Warburg.
