Warm-up victory against Slovakia

Switzerland's Olympic ice-hockey team have beaten Slovakia 4-3 in the second warm-up match for the Salt City Games.

Victory for Ralf Krueger’s side comes after Monday’s 4-1 defeat by the highly-respected Slovakian team.

Goals from André Rötheli, Martin Höhener, Mark Streit and Patrick Fischer helped put Swiss preparations for the Winter Olympics back on track.

The Swiss side are seen as likely favourites in the other preliminary group in Salt Lake City, where they are pitted against France, Ukraine and Belarus. Slovakia have also been widely tipped as favourites to win their preliminary round group round at the Games.

Success in the preliminary round would allow the Swiss team to go through to the final round where they would meet three of the “Big Six” (Canada, the United States, Russia, Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic).
