Wedding fever hits Switzerland

Brides still prefer white Keystone

The second Swiss wedding festival starts next weekend in Lucerne. From February 9 to 11, couples will find all they need for "the big day" at the city's Art-Deco-Hotel Montana.

Around 185 stalls will cover an area of 10,000 square metres packed with everything from hairdressers to hire cars.

There will be a special show of the latest fashions for both bride and groom, brought together in a romantic parade called “A night in Venice”.

Glitterati from the worlds of fashion, floristry and catering will be on hand to give personal advice and Miss Switzerland, Mahara McKay, will be the guest of honour.

The highlight of the weekend is a live wedding, billed for Saturday afternoon. The happy pair, Cordula and Torsten Steinbrink, were voted wedding couple of the year by readers of a national magazine. Their prize includes all bridal clothing, wedding rings and a week’s honeymoon.

Although Lucerne plays host to Switzerland’s biggest wedding fair, there are combined wedding and baby exhibitions in Bern and Lausanne throughout February.
