Zülle retains Tour of Spain lead

The Swiss rider, Alex Zülle, has successfully defended his overall lead in the Tour of Spain cycling race, on Tuesday's fourth stage of the competition. The day's leg was won by Oscar Freire of Spain.

Freire, the current world champion, won the stage in a sprint finish, ahead of two Italians, Giovanni Lombardi and Endrio Leoni. The latest segment of the race took the riders 159 kilometres from Valdepenas to Albacete.

Zülle, the leading rider of the Banesto team, had no trouble holding on to his leader’s yellow jersey two seconds ahead of Spain’s Abraham Olano.

Zülle came in sixteenth, behind Olano.
