I am a dual citizenship, Swiss and USA. I came back to Switzerland after doing my high school and university in the USA. I earned a master’s degree in special education. I worked over 10 years in the US and came back to Switzerland last year.
I cannot find a job. It took 1 1/2 year for Bern (CDIP) to look at my degrees/diplomas and work and tell me that I would have to go back to work. I have since applied to private schools and private organizations; even for jobs that I would be over qualified in the states. Still no job.
I am sad. I always wanted to move back because I missed the mountains and Swiss life, but it has been very disappointing on the job front. Having said that I am still happy to be in Switzerland

I came to Switzerland in search of civilized relations, law and order.

In general, all is well. Now I am defending my rights in court. I was prosecuted for crossing the border from Germany. Although, for asylum seekers this is not a crime.

I have been living in Europe for seven years. I have had over 30 court cases. Previously many courts in other countries ignored the law.

Now I hope for justice in Swiss court.

Good afternoon, we arrived in Switzerland 3 years ago, my husband was offered a transfer and we were delighted to accept. We are of Spanish origin and were living in England at the time. Before the move we visited the country and we loved it, the landscape, the climate, the culture, we thought our children would live happily here. After 3 years we are all integrated. Well, everyone except me, because my profession requires me to have a very high level of knowledge of the language. I hope that soon I will be able to contribute and be part of the labor market. Best regards, Inma

Hello Inmadm,
I am moving soon because my wife has found a job in Zurich as an engineer. I am too, but I am afraid that I might not find one myself, since I don't speak the language at all. Although I speak Spanish, English, Portuguese and a little French. Let's see how it goes. Good luck with your job and I hope you find a good job that you like.
Best regards,
Fran

Hola Inmadm,
Fran

Hi Fran,

Thank you for your reply and for your good wishes.
It is normal that you feel that vertigo of starting from scratch and it is true that the language will limit you in terms of finding a job, but give yourself time, learn the language or (easier) look for multinationals where English is spoken, there are many.

Best regards and good luck in your adventure!

Inma

Hola Fran,

Inma

I am a third generation Swiss born in South Africa and now living in Switzerland for the first time ever. Just moved here last week with my wife. I guess I had this pre-conceived idea of what Switzerland looked and felt like from the time of my grandparents. Of course in reality the country has changed a lot since then. But I look forward to this new adventure and getting to know ‘modern’ Switzerland. Merci!

I moved to Switzerland a few years ago after marrying a Swiss, from the United States.

At some point I plan to obtain the Swiss nationality and renounce my American citizenship.

Though this is taking longer than expected, as I’m having difficulty balancing studies with also learning languages.

If possible I’d like to repay Switzerland at some point in the future with military service, and as a US army veteran I think I could be a boon to whatever unit I might be assigned to.

However, I fear I may be too old to be allowed to join whenever that day comes.
