On the road in Switzerland – with Google

In addition to giving us a sense of place and direction, Google Street View offers unexpected glimpses into people’s lives. What happens if we delve deeper into the images?

Selecting individual moments from the huge flood of images on Google Street View is a variation of the “street photography” genre. These 360-degree street scenes, shot at eye-level, provide a wealth of secondhand subjects.

On a virtual journey through towns, villages and landscapes across Switzerland, we encounter people left and right. We meet with all sorts of individuals and couples who – without being asked – provide us with insight into their lives, relationships and daily routines. They’re travelling, they’re at work, they meet and bid farewell. Bizarre encounters, strange events and poetic moments arise and disappear.
