The devil they know

Ignoring talk about a nail-biting finish, Donald Beyer, the US ambassador to Switzerland, thinks Obama will romp home with around 300 electoral college votes.

“If you look at the current figures state by state, Obama already has a significant advantage among new and postal voters,” the ambassador told the "Nordwestschweiz" newspaper on Monday.

Beyer, who was appointed by Obama, reportedly raised $1.5 million in Switzerland for the current president’s fundraising drive.

American expats in Switzerland (total 30,000) are traditionally thought to vote Democrat.

Support for Obama has been coming in from different sources. He also enjoys the recent backing of the Financial Times and The Economist magazine, whose editorial board said it would “stick with the devil” it knows.

If foreigners could vote they would also probably pick Obama, if you believe a recent BBC World Service poll of over 21,000 people in 21 countries. Only Pakistanis overwhelmingly preferred Romney.
