Boss at Credit Suisse gets a smaller paycheck

Although Credit Suisse CEO Brady Dougan received less money last year, he is still one of Switzerland’s top-earning managers.

Dougan’s total compensation for 2010 added up to SFr12.9 million ($14 million) – considerably less than the SFr19.2 million that he brought home the previous year.

According to the bank’s annual report, published on Thursday, Dougan’s base salary is SFr2.5 million. In addition to that he receives a variable remuneration (share claims and adjustable performance plan claims) of SFr9.7 million plus other remuneration of SFr0.5 million.

The highest-paid bank manager was not Dougan but rather the CEO of the bank’s Americas region, Antonio C. Quintella. He received a pay packet of SFr15.6 million in 2010. Quintella’s base salary is SFr0.8 million, but his variable compensation is SFr13.9 plus an additional SFr0.9 million.

The 16-member board of Credit Suisse received a total of SFr160.3 million in 2010. President Hans-Ulrich Doerig, its highest-paid member, got SFr6.3 million. Newly-designated president Urs Rohner received six million – nearly twice what he got the previous year.

In comparison, Swiss bank UBS paid its senior executives a third more in salaries and bonuses in 2010.
