The days when each country could resolve its problems alone are past, Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey has told Swiss ambassadors.

In her opening speech to the 2010 Ambassadors Conference in the resort of Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland, Calmy-Rey said international cooperation was key.
This certainly did not mean a loss of independence or an abandonment of sovereignty, she stressed.
The Ambassadors Conference brings together around 200 representatives of Switzerland abroad, including ambassadors, consuls general and heads of the cooperation offices of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
Being discussed at the annual gathering are Switzerland’s European policy and the future of Switzerland as a financial centre, as well as disarmament – a priority of foreign policy and access to water.
The conference will end on August 27 with the traditional excursion with the Swiss President, a post held this year by Economics Minister Doris Leuthard. It will be in canton Obwalden.
