Crossair plans memorial for victims of January crash
Crossair has announced plans to erect a memorial to the victims of a plane crash in January, in which all ten on board were killed. The memorial will be built near the crash site in Nassenwil, canton Zurich.
The acting director of Crossair, Fritz Gotz, said the land on which it will be built has been donated by the parish of Nassenwil. It is not yet known what the memorial will look like, but the airline said it plans to have “something discreet.”
The memorial will stand some 100 metres from the field where the plane went down and is due to be inaugurated on January 10th 2001, the first anniversary of the crash.
Meanwhile, the investigation is continuing into why the Dresden-bound Crossair flight crashed minutes after taking off from Zurich airport. Instead of turning left after take-off, airport authorities say the plane veered to the right before spiralling to the ground in a nose-dive. All on board – seven passengers and three crew members – were killed.
According to the federal office for airline investigations, an initial assessment into the cause of the crash is expected in October.
