Economy continues to grow

Booming economy: an influential think tank says Swiss economic growth is set to continue Keystone

The recovery in the Swiss economy will continue at the same strong pace, according to a Lausanne-based economic research institute, Créa.

The institute said the economy has been in a more robust phase of growth since the middle of last year, with unemployment falling and productivity rising.

In the first quarter of the year, economic growth was expanding at a rate not seen for 10 years. The industrial and construction sectors both did particularly well.

Order books increased 14.8 per cent over the first quarter with turnover also expanding at a similar rate, said Créa in its report.

Créa also notes that “the positive economic trends are also apparent in the French speaking part of Switzerland”.

It said that only in canton Fribourg is economic growth expected to slow over the third quarter.

Créa added that all the other French-speaking cantons should see continued economic expansion, with even some risk of overheating in canton Jura.
