How to stop Aids in five seconds

Health authorities have launched their 2009 "Love Life Stop Aids" campaign with what it claims are Switzerland's shortest television adverts.

The spots show couples meeting in a bus, on the beach or at the bar and then hopping into bed – all within five seconds. The caption at the end asks, "Had sex too quick to think of condoms?"

In situations where people meet unexpectedly and have sex, condoms are not always at hand, reminded the Federal Health Office and Swiss Aids Federation, which jointly launched the campaign on Thursday.

The risk involved in unprotected spontaneous sex should not be played down, and therefore people should always have a condom at hand, they said.

The adverts are designed to remind people that it is not enough to be aware of safe sex rules.

The "Love Life Stop Aids" campaign's website, which includes an English version, offers a checklist to help people find out if they are at risk.
