Immigration accord with Bosnia planned
The justice ministry says Switzerland is planning a framework accord on immigration with Bosnia-Herzegovina – the first of its kind.
Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf and the visiting Bosnian security minister, Tarik Sadović, signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at increasing cooperation on immigration and easing visa regulations.
They also discussed the implementation of an accord agreed last November on police cooperation and the return of rejected asylum seekers.
Sadović’s visit to Switzerland on Monday came after Widmer-Schlumpf had travelled to Sarajevo in November.
Last year there were more than 37,000 Bosnian residents living in Switzerland – the third largest group from the Balkan region behind nationals from Serbia as well as Montenegro.
