Ever wondered how many companies in Switzerland deliver Internet security products? A new online directory of Swiss Internet businesses makes finding that information a lot easier.

One click on the efinder directory delivers a list of Switzerland’s Internet security firms. There are 30. Two clicks delivers a list of all the firms that can build an Internet solution for businesses located in the region of Aargau. There are 18.

The New Media department of Zurich Network, an organization that has the job of promoting the Zurich region abroad as a place to do high tech business, commissioned Netzwoche, a weekly trade publication for the country’s Internet sector, to produce the efinder directory.

Searching the web

Searches can be performed by location of the business and/or category. The makers of the database were smart to enable both keyword searches and menu driven ones. Menu driven searches are good for those of us who are not familiar with the terminology used by Internet service and content providers.

News of bankruptcies, liquidations and last minute mergers aside, Switzerland’s new media and Internet sector is maturing. There are 567 Internet-related firms in the Zurich area alone, according to a search in efinder that took this reporter three seconds to perform.

Unlike other directories that exist already, the data appears to be comprehensive. Netzwoche has been collecting it for more than two years. According to the site, companies and service providers enter there own information but it is later edited by Netzwoche’s journalists.
