More car drivers than train and bus users

People living in western and southern Switzerland are using public transport much less frequently than their counterparts in the north. The proportion of people using cars and public transport in Switzerland has stayed the same for ten years.

Considering total kilometres travelled, public transport has accounted for about 19%
of all travel since 2005. The figure for cars is just over 73%. Public transport bosses say that by 2040, about 10 million people will be living in Switzerland and with space increasingly at a premium, it’s vital to achieve the right balance between public transport and road traffic. (SRF/swissinfo.ch)
