Mikron launches activities in the American mobile phone market

Mikron

The Mikron technology company of Biel has announced it is investing some SFr25 million in a state-of-the-art factory for mobile phone components in the United States.

In a communiqué, Mikron said the factory at San Antonio in the state of Texas would be ready for production from the fourth quarter of this year, supplying components to the Mikron Infocom Technology Division.

Texas is regarded as one of the most important growth areas for the US mobile telephone industry.

To provide it with all the required infrastructure, Mikron is taking over the injection moulding tool manufacturer “Aus-Tech Mould and Design”, which is near the new factory.

“In commencing production in the US, Mikron Infocom is looking to exploit the steeply rising demand in the North American market,” the communiqué said.

Customers for the new Mikron plant will be leading market suppliers in the mobile phone industry. They will now be sourcing their mobile phone components from Mikron not only in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Britain, Malaysia and China, but also in North America.
