Montreux Jazz Festival heads to airports

The head of the annual Montreux Jazz Festival, Claude Nobs, has confirmed the event's name will be used to promote cafés at selected airports around the world.

Planned locations for the cafés include Geneva, Zurich, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Sydney.

Nobs told the Sonntag newspaper that each location will be able to cater for 150 customers, and will include space for small concerts as well as a selection of music and other items branded with the Montreux name for sale.

The Swiss festival’s organisers will not manage the cafés, leaving that task to a Dutch catering firm, which has been allowed to use the Montreux brand.

Nobs, who is 72, also confirmed that Mathieu Jaton, the current deputy director, would take over the festival from him, without giving a date for his own departure.
