More jobs to go as American robotics company closes

Another United States IT company is to shed jobs in western Switzerland swissinfo.ch

Another American technology company is to close down in western Switzerland, with the loss of 15 jobs. US Robotics of Nyon in canton Vaud blamed the decision on falling orders caused by the economic slowdown.

The company makes modems and other computer hardware. The office will close at the end of September or October.

The firm will maintain a European office in London and a few employees from Nyon may be transferred there.

US Robotics only arrived in canton Vaud in November last year with the aim of expanding its activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It says it hasn’t ruled out a return to Switzerland when economic conditions are more favourable.

The announcement follows a similar decision last week by Silicon Graphics. It is to close its site in canton Neuchâtel at the end of the year with the loss of 300 jobs.

It also blamed the current economic climate.
