100 Years of the Simplon Tunnel (1998)

In 1898, work began on the Simplon Rail Tunnel, one of the great achievements in alpine engineering. Linking Switzerland to Italy, it took six-and-a-half years to build and offered the shortest route between Paris and Milan.
