Nazi web platform blocked by Swiss Internet service providers

Swiss ISPs are cracking down on web-based racism Keystone

The Basel-based organisation "Children of the Holocaust" has scored a significant victory in its battle against Nazi propaganda on the Internet.

After lobbying from the organisation, three of Switzerland’s largest Internet Service Providers have announced they will block access to a web platform containing 754 racist and anti-semitic sites.

Swisscom, Sunrise/Diax and Tiscalinet have announced that anyone surfing the web via their servers will be denied access to the sites, which contravene Swiss laws against racism.

According to Swisscom, a decision was taken to block the sites as soon as they received notification of their content from “Children of the Holocaust”.

Since last autumn, the organisation has been responsible for the closure of some 40 sites containing racist material, previously accessible through the Internet service provider, Yahoo.
