New English version of constitution published

An updated English version of the Swiss federal constitution has been published by the government.

This content was published on September 8, 2008 - 10:54

It was made available to meet a growing demand for details of legislation to be accessible in English, the Federal Chancellery said on Monday.

The translation was submitted to external experts and the justice ministry for review before publication and is part of an ongoing project to make selected Swiss legislation available to the public in Romansh - Switzerland's fourth national language - as well as in English.

The current compilation of English texts is small but the authorities say new translations will regularly be added and important public and private law texts eventually included.

The translations are purely for information purposes and have no legal force.

The English version can be downloaded from the Swiss government website.
