Folco Galli, spokesman at the Swiss justice ministry, said on Tuesday that Polanski would not be placed under house arrest at his alpine chalet in Gstaad until the full bail was received.
He added that payment of $4.5 million (SFr4.5 million) was expected in the next few days and that all other conditions had been satisfied for Polanski’s house arrest with an electronic monitoring tag.
Polanski, aged 76, will not be allowed to leave his chalet in the Bernese Oberland while Switzerland decides whether to extradite him to the United States, where he is wanted for sentencing after being convicted of having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old.
Swiss authorities detained Polanski at the end of September when he arrived in Zurich to attend the city’s annual film festival.
