Strong result for Unaxis after first year of business

The Unaxis technology group, formerly Oerlikon-Bührle, has announced that sales in its first year of business increased by 41 per cent to Sfr3.285 billion ($2 billion).

Unaxis said on Thursday that turnover in its Information Technology division soared by 79 per cent to SFr1.195 billion.

A statement from the company’s headquarters in Zurich said orders received in 2000 had risen by 52 per cent to SFr3.732 billion.

It added that Unaxis plans to float or sell off two business units this year – Leybold Optics, which contributed SFr165 million to group sales, and Unaxis Materials, which contributed SFr133 million.

The group said that as already announced, a sales agreement for the Pilatus aircraft company had been settled with a Swiss-controlled group of investors.

The statement said the transaction would be closed in the first quarter. Pilatus sales for 2000 were SFr451 million.
