The Swiss chocolate manufacturers, Lindt & Sprüngli, has announced a 7.1 per cent increase in sales in 1999, to SFr1.44 billion. The group said it expected an even larger increase in profits.

Lindt said its sales were up from SFr 1.34 billion in 1998. It said the group had grown faster than the chocolate market as a whole, which is generally stagnating.

The group is due to announce detailed results for 1999 on April 4.
