Swiss arrested in Thailand for drug trafficking

A Swiss man has been arrested in Thailand on charges of cocaine trafficking, the foreign ministry has confirmed.

According to media reports, the 47-year-old Thai resident was detained on Monday at Phuket airport after being found allegedly carrying four kilogrammes of cocaine.

Under local law, the man could be sentenced to death if found guilty of drug trafficking.

The foreign ministry said it had contacted both the man and the Thai authorities to clarify the situation.
