Swiss pledge support for Bosnia

Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey says Switzerland will continue to support Bosnia-Herzegovina with projects aimed at stabilising the Balkan region.

Switzerland has granted Bosnia aid worth €210 million (SFr330 million) over the past few years for de-mining, judicial and constitutional reform and the development of civil society.

Calmy-Rey said she deplored that fact that it was not possible to schedule a visit to Serbia as part of her five-day visit to southeastern Europe, including Kosovo.

She was speaking in Sarajevo, following talks with her Bosnian counterpart, Sven Alkalaj, on Thursday.

Switzerland is set to become the second country after Britain to open an embassy in Kosovo. It recognised Kosovo’s independence shortly after the breakaway Serbian region unilaterally declared independence last month.
