Swiss so-so on train service satisfaction

Swiss Federal Railways passengers are generally satisfied with the company’s services, although many feel the trains are too crowded and dirty.

The results of an annual survey of 20,000 people showed that overall satisfaction among railway passengers dropped to 75.6 points in 2009, down 0.1 points from the year before.

Price-to-performance remains a sore spot for many, the survey showed, with satisfaction in that category ranking 61.3 points out of a possible 100. That is better than in 2008, when it had 59.8 points.

Other areas that seem to irk passengers include a lack of available seating (67.9 points) and a lack of cleanliness in both the trains (69 points) and railway stations (68.7 points,).

Satisfaction in those areas was less than in 2008. Respondents also said workers in 2009 were a little less friendly than a year ago.

On the plus side, travellers applaud quick updates about service disruptions. They also like the company‘s improved schedules and routes, the survey found.
