Switzerland limits actions of PKK

The government has taken measures to limit the activities of the militant Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) after a series of attacks against the Turkish community.

In particular, fund-raising events due to be held at Kurdish celebrations in Switzerland later this month have been banned and a more restrictive policy is to be applied on permits for demonstrations.

About a dozen attacks on Turkish cafés, association premises and travel agencies in Switzerland have been carried out since mid-October.

The foreign ministry said these had been perpetrated by the PKK and allied organisations.

It added that the measures were being introduced to avoid an escalation of violence in Switzerland and to prevent funds being raised by organisations that were known to be involved in violent activities abroad.
