Three hurt in roof fall at Libeskind landmark

A roof fall at the leisure pool and spa at the Daniel Libeskind-designed Westside shopping centre in the Swiss capital Bern has injured three people.

Around 1,000 people had to be evacuated from the Bernaqua spa complex on Tuesday evening, a spokeswoman said.

One of the three injured had to be taken to hospital after part of the roof fell down. An evacuation was carried out for safety reasons, she added.

The cause of the accident is not yet known and is being investigated. “Bernaqua regrets the incident and will do everything it can to clarify the cause,” said the spa on its website.

The shopping and leisure complex opened to great fanfare in the Swiss capital in 2008 and cost SFr500 million ($557 million).
