The Austrian capital, Vienna, came first in the latest list of the Mercer consulting group ahead of two Swiss cities, Zurich and Geneva.

Vancouver in Canada, and Auckland, New Zealand, tied in fourth place, while the Swiss capital, Bern, came ninth. Bottom of the table was – as in previous years - the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The survey is based on a series of political, economic, social and ecological criteria.

Zurich had been top rated in the annual survey since 2002.
