These travellers have long been subject to discrimination.

Despite being granted Swiss citizenship in 1851, the Jenisch were marginalised for more than a century. From 1926-1972 Jenisch children were taken away from their parents and put into care. Nowadays around 90 per cent of the 30,000 Jenisch in Switzerland have abandoned their nomadic lifestyle.
