A photography book reveals the daily life of the Mzaina Bedouins in southern Sinai.
This content was published on
The Mzaina Bedouins in this part of Egypt have lived according to the rules of their tribal culture for centuries.
Livestock breeding, religion and family dominate life in the desert. Increasingly, modern media, Western values, and urban ways of living are endangering their traditional culture.
The German-language book, Mzaina Bedouins in the Sinai, (Benteli, 2012) by Swiss photographers Anina Gmür and Daniel Auf der Mauer documents the change in striking pictures, accompanied by interviews with members of the tribe carried out by ethnologist Katrin Biallas.
