FC Basel remain unchallenged at the top of the Swiss football league thanks to a 2-1 win over Servette.

Despite being under great pressure with the Grasshoppers Zurich being hot on their heels in the league, FC Basel were the dominant team of the match.

Basel’s Murat Yakin came up with the goods and scored the first goal in the 14th minute, closely followed by another goal by the Cameroonian Atouba five minutes later.

Servette’s Sébastien Fourniers scored to reach 2-1, but he was then sent off after having received two yellow cards.

Yao Aziawonou, who only recently returned to the FC Basel from Thun was sent off one hour later.

Grasshoppers vs Sion

On Saturday the Grasshoppers Zurich won 1-0 against Sion, closing the gap on league leaders Basel.

Third-placed team Lugano easily beat FC Zurich 2-0 at home on Saturday, with Oliver Biaggi opening the scoring with a header in the 33rd minute.

The Young Boys were also on a winning streak and beat St Gallen 1-0, which took them into fourth place of the league.
