Basel keep double dream alive

Basel's Murat Yakin scores a vital goal during the penalty shoot-out Keystone

Basel have managed to keep alive their dream of winning the Swiss Football Cup and League double after beating Young Boys 5-4 in the Cup semi-finals.

With the score level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, Young Boys took the league leaders into extra time. But Basel sent the home crowd into a frenzy after winning the penalty shoot-out 4-3.

Meanwhile, Lausanne took time off from their fight against relegation to welcome defending league champions, Grasshoppers Zurich.

Despite home crowd support, Lausanne were crushed 4-1. Grasshoppers were in control of the match by half-time, securing a two-goal lead. Lausanne scored their only goal of the match in the second half.

The Grasshoppers and Basel now go through to the Swiss Cup final, which is due to be played in Basel on May 12.
