Defending champions FC Basel started off on the right foot when they defeated FC Aarau 1-0 in the first real match of the season.

Basel asserted their authority on Saturday in the first half, when Christian Gimenez headed the ball into the goal in the 19th minute.

In front of 10,000 fans both football teams proved that they had not forgotten how to play a good match over the break.

Aarau had three good chances to equalise, however, Basel’s goalie Pascal Zuberbühler did not let the ball get past him.

Grasshoppers vs Wil

In the match Grasshoppers versus Wil, the hosts were the dominating team throughout the game and achieved an impressive home victory of 4-1.

After Argentinian player Antonio Barijho scored the second goal in the 19th minute, it was already clear that the Grasshoppers would leave the pitch as the winners.

Apart from Mordekus’ impressive goal, which he scored in the 52nd minute, Wil did not get going during the match and remained the weaker team.

In other matches Neuchâtel beat Thun 2-1 and Luzern scrambled to a two-all draw against the Young Boys.
