Bastl beats his opponent in Shanghai
Switzerland's George Bastl has beaten the American, Jeff Tarango, at the Shanghai ATP tournament in straight sets. Bastl now faces Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador in the second round of the tournament.
The French-speaking Swiss, who is ranked 96th in the ATP table, came a step closer to winning the prize money of $328,000 at the Shanghai Open by beating Tarango 6-4, 6-4.
Bastl’s task of reaching the third round of the Open won’t be easy: he will have to get past Lapentti who is ranked 20th on the ATP ladder. The Ecuadorian beat Bulgaria’s Orlin Stanoytchev in the opening round of the tournament.
