Switzerland's André Bucher has come second in the final of the 800 metres at the European Indoor Championships in Vienna, Austria.

The Swiss runner, who won gold at last year’s World Championships in Edmonton, Canada, was beaten in a close-fought race by Poland’s Pavel Czapiewski.

Bucher, who led from the front, was caught by the Pole at the finishing line. Czapiewski’s time of 1’44”78 was the fastest in the world this year, while Bucher established a new Swiss record with a time of 1’44”93.
