Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey has declined an invitation to the wedding of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock in July.
The foreign ministry confirmed Calmy-Rey, who is also foreign minister, was unable to attend due to prior commitments. The ambassador to France and Monaco will attend in her place.
Some 3,500 people are expected to attend the celebrations which will take place on July 1 and 2.
In other royal wedding news, Switzerland’s ambassador to Britain, Anton Thalmann, had been invited and would attend the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29, the foreign ministry said.
