Campaign launched against violence on women

A nationwide campaign has been launched to tackle physical, sexual and psychological abuse suffered by thousands of women in Switzerland.

More than 50 organisations and associations in the German-speaking part of the country have signed up for the “16 days against violence against women” campaign, which starts on Thursday, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on December 10, International Human Rights Day.

In a statement on Tuesday, organisers pointed out that despite an increase in laws, women were still being beaten by their partners and discriminated against as a result of inequality.

It is the third time that the campaign has taken place in Switzerland. Over the 16 days various events aim to draw attention to gender-specific forms of violence, show connections between direct and structural violence, and publicise advice centres.
