Canada triumphs over Finland in Davos
Canada's ice-hockey players have made a spectacular start in their first match of the Spengler Cup by beating Jokerit Helsinki 3-0.
The Finns’s defeat comes a day after they snatched victory from Germany’s Kölner Haie in a penalty shoot-out.
The favourites in Davos, Canada Selects had little difficulty disposing of the Finnish side. Their victory gives them two points on the scoreboard, bringing them level with the Finns and the Swiss side, Davos.
Canada’s strong start does not bode well for the other teams, which include Germany’s Kölner Haie and the Czech Republic’s Sparta Prag.
They lost to Helsinki and Davos on Tuesday, but the four teams seemed evenly matched throughout, with both games being decided in penalty shoot-outs.
Davos will have a chance to improve their score later on Wednesday, when they meet the Kölner Haie.
A win for Davos would give it a strong chance of qualifying for the final on Sunday.
