Cancellara recovers after bee sting puncture

Swiss Olympic and world time-trial champion cyclist Fabian Cancellara says he will race in the Spanish Vuelta following a severe allergic reaction to a bee sting.

Cancellara was hospitalised in Switzerland as a result of the sting, he said on his Twitter feed.

The Swiss rider posted pictures of himself on Twitter receiving oxygen and with one eye almost closed by swelling. He said it was the second bee sting he had suffered in recent days, which had made it worse.

Cancellara was released after six hours and was able to join his Leopard Trek team in Benidorm late on Thursday.

The race begins with a team time-trial on Saturday and continues until September 11. It covers 21 stages and 3,300 kilometres.
