Chantal Strasser wins gold at European swimming championships
Switzerland's Chantal Strasser has clinched a gold medal at the European short-course swimming championships in Spain.
She clocked 8 minutes 2.23 seconds in the 800-metre freestyle competition. She finished ahead of Britain’s Rebecca Cooke and Jana Pechanova from the Czech Republic.
Strasser is the second Swiss women’s swimmer to clinch a gold medal over the 800 metre distance. Flavia Rigamonti won gold at the European championships in 1998.
